How It All Started

Richgrace school is a vision God gave to Mrs. Chinyelu Akunne wife of Ven. Francis Akunne so many years ago as an extension of their ministry. The vision was to create a school community where God is feared and honored by the learners, staff, parents and everybody that has anything to do with the school directly or indirectly.

As the school’s name implies (RICHGRACE) she is rich in the grace of changing destines positively, developing love for learning and excellence inspired by quality teaching, broad curriculum, exciting and loving environment.

Richgrace school officially opened for her first academic year on 14th of September, 2015 with a total number of 15 learners and 4 teaching staff. The school was then located at No.8, Adelabu street, Off Masha, Surulere, Lagos.

As the number of pupils and staff keep growing by day through referrals, the need to get a bigger place arose.

Later on, the school moved to another location at 10, Akpoguma Street, Kilo Bus stop, Surulere in June, 2017 and has been making steady progress and expansion within these few years uptill 2023 when they have to move again for expansion purposes to their current location at 5 Ladejobi Street Off Nnobi Street, Kilo, Surulere, Lagos, Nigeria.

Academic Achievements

The school has groomed and graduated pupils into primary section from Nursery 2 and reputable colleges within and outside the state, some of the colleges include Federal government colleges, Command secondary school, Mission schools etc, just to mention but a few. A child from the last academic session won a N7m scholarship from JSS1 to SS3 into Dowen College Lekki, Lagos

Extra Curriculum activities

: In her commitment to developing a total child who is balanced academically, emotionally, socially and can compete with his/her counterparts globally, the following clubs are run in school and every child is expected to sign up for at least one of them. They include:- Swimming, Music, Taekwondo, Red Cross, Ballet, Press/Media Clubs, Boys’ Scott.

Spiritual Activities

God being our Anchor, special prayers are conducted for the learners and the staff every Wednesday and 1st Friday of every month. The staff equally keep vigil twice in a term.

Class Presentation

This programme has really helped in developing and building pupils’ strength and talents. Parents who honoured our invitation will attest to our children’s performance. Some of the topics presented by our pupils are as follows:-

  1. Skeleton – Distinction between female and male skeleton.
  2. Solar system – characteristics of the nine (9) planets
  3. Preparation of simple electric circuit.
  4. Extraction of green colour from green leaves.
  5. Building a storey building using cartons.
  6. Practical illustration of the reasons why some objects can float in the air why others cannot.
  7. Map as a geographical tool.
  8. Designing of weather instruments e.g wind vane, thermometer, rain guage.
  9. National Assembly.

Our Numbers

Presently, the school has a population of over 100 pupils and the following classes: 

                                    Creche           –           3months         –           18 months

                                    Playgroup      –           1          –           2 years

                                    Prenursery    –           2          –          3 years

                                    Nursery 1       –           3yrs    –           4 years

                                    Nursery 2       –           4yrs    –           5 years

                                    Grade  1  to Grade 6 (6 years and above)

A total number of 13 teaching staff and 7 non teaching staff are gainfully employed by the school.

Our Curriculum

We run Nigerian and British curriculum married together.

Dr. Maria Montessori, an Italian physician and Educator has as one of her philosophy of education I quote “what the hand does the mind remembers”

In Richgrace school, learning process is activity based. Children are helped to do it themselves with the use of Montessori materials and other learning resources. They take responsibility for their learning.

We teach children how to read and write early with the use of Jolly phonics and Nelson Hand writing. The following subjects are offered in Richgrace schools:-

Excursion

The importance of excursion in the lives of learners cannot be over emphasized. Sequel to this, the school has taken her pupils on excursions to so many places like National Theater, Financial Institutions (Zenith Bank) Omu Resort, Railway station and hope to do more in the nearest future.
